General Population Random Sample (GPRS)


Advanis offers, exclusively to government and not for profit clients, General Population Random Sample (GPRS), which we developed in response to several trends we observed that are shaping today’s public sector research:

  1. Online and text communication favoured over voice (phone) communication.
  2. Increasing non-response when using traditional data collection methods.
  3. Declining research budgets.
  4. Increased demand for data-driven decision-making.
  5. Increased urgency to generate insights.

To ensure that Advanis provides relevant and reliable sampling approaches, we sought to address the above trends, in particular, the need for cost-effective alternatives to RDD phone sampling, without having to rely on non-probability samples. The approach we developed generates what we call General Population Random Sample (GPRS): a proprietary, representative sample source recruited via probability-sampling. This sampling method is substantially more cost-effective than RDD via telephone interviewers using CATI and allows full statistical testing, while avoiding the challenges commonly associated with non-probability (e.g., panel) samples, in particular coverage bias and satisficing.
